Back in 1992 we opened the very first Clothing Warehouse. Those days it was just Jim Buckley, a skinny farm kid from Ohio who always had a dream of working in fashion. He spent a couple years in New York playing the “young hipster” in commercials all the while building and selling small businesses to make ends meet. He decided to move to Atlanta, where he and a friend started the Clothing Warehouse, which, back then, was just a vintage exporting outfit.
Soon enough, though, inventory grew, and Buckley thought to open a retail shop to sell some of the kick-ass clothes coming through his doors. He opened a small retail shop in the front room of the warehouse. Business flourished, and a brand was born. Hipsters throughout the city celebrated the fact that they finally had an option for unusual and original clothing without having to sort through thrift store bins, or racks of stained shirts
cluttered and cramped stores. Not at the Clothing Warehouse! Buckley thought to present the clothes in an easy-to-find way and sold by young stylish salespeople who not only worked at the shop, but also shopped there. They knew the inventory, knew the customers and knew how to give solid advice.
Others heard of the Clothing Warehouse and before long, celebrities alongside stylists shopped at the store.
In 1995, a young Erin Faulman joined the team after having moved to Atlanta from Vero Beach, FL. She brought with her an innate sense of style coupled with a natural way of telling people just what they needed to buy. And buy they did! Happily so, and these loyal customers continued to shop at the Clothing Warehouse, which eventually moved to its current location on Moreland Avenue in Little Five Points, where it has been since 2000.
In 2005, Faulman and Buckley decided The Clothing Warehouse should be shared with the world. They wanted to franchise their idea, making the store available to people in other cities. They wrote a user's manual, talked to potential owners and sooner than they expected, several new stores opened – check out the Our Stores tab for our current lineup. More stores are opening in other cities all the time! |
